California

It has been reported that
racetracks and Indian tribes may be in the process of
agreeing on a revenue-sharing proposalwhich might bring slot
machines to the state’s racetracks.
The reports come in the wake of the dropping of a lawsuit
filed by Hollywood Park, Santa Anita, Bay Meadows, Golden
Gate Fields, and Los Alamitos Racecourse, who sought to
invalidate a gaming compact, signed last year by California
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which granted the tribes an
exclusive franchise on the machines.
The suit was dropped on May 25, and the tracks and tribes
have reportedly been in negotiations for some time. Reports
also say the lawsuit could go back on the court docket if
talks do not progress.
