Qualifiers Galore At
Cal-Expo
Friday, September 12,
2008 - by Scott Ehrlich, Publicity -- Cal-Expo
With the Standardbred action having taken a scheduled break
at Cal-Expo that began on August 3, it came as no surprise
to see the entry box for qualifiers overflow for this
weekend.
Fans wishing to get a preview of what to expect when the
2008 Cal-Expo Fall/Winter season gets underway on Thursday,
September 18, will have plenty of opportunities to do so,
thirty to be exact, as a multitude of qualifiers, thirteen
on Friday, September 12, and seventeen on Saturday,
September 13, have been carded, all to begin both mornings
at 11:00 a.m. pacific time.
“Cal Expo received stall applications for 650 horses for the
Fall/Winter harness meet,” said David Elliott, Assistant
General Manager of Racing Events for Cal Expo. "We are
quite pleased with the interest in our meet and the number
of stall applications received."
Fans coming out for the Saturday qualifiers, which are
always free to the public, will get a special treat when
watching the eighth race that day, as the field brings out
the likes of California Dream, D Jokerman, Keystone Eli, and
Top Topper, just to name a few. Those four easily
could be considered the best pacers on the ground, and
certainly figure to do battle throughout the fall and winter
months in the Open 1 Handicap Pace.
Live racing begins once again at Cal-Expo on Thursday
(September 18) and continue through Saturday (September 20).
Post-time every Thursday through Saturday through December
20 is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. (PDT). On Thursdays,
Cal-Expo offers a complete Lasagna dinner, which includes
salad and bread, for just $3.00.
The Pick-6 at Cal-Expo is now a $1 wager.
