The largest amateur race series ever conducted in California
continues on Saturday (Oct. 29) with the second legs of the
colts/geldings and fillies/mares events. After some serious claiming
action in leg one of the series, four of the contenders find themselves
in new barns racing for a base tag of $4500. All eyes are looking toward
the finals which sport $10,000 purses in each of the boys and girls
divisions. Wagering this week will not only be featured at the windows,
but also potentially at the claim box where last week a total of nine
claims were entered.
Two other major series developments were announced this week. First, one
of the nation’s leading drivers, George Brennan, joined the list of
contributors to the Bronte Epilepsy Research Foundation, the beneficiary
of this race series, which is sponsored by California’s own Lou Pena.
Second, 500 “Bronte” T-shirts will be given out on November 5th, the
night of the two $10,000 finals.
The top eight money winners competing in both legs of the series will be
eligible for the finals, one for each gender. In addition, every horse
in the final is guaranteed to earn $200.
Handicappers can get the best racing data available for the series and
every race on Saturday’s card, in addition to free TrackMaster Greg
selections at

Series sponsor Lou Pena will come to the left coast for the festivities
on finals day and had this to say about the series. “I miss California
so very much. My family is there, my old friends are there, and most of
my adult life was spent there. I am very much looking forward to being
at the track on finals night, mingling with the fans and hoping to put
some smiles on their faces. Most of all, I am happy to be able to help
my friend and her family. And while I have met some brave people in my
day, there is no one that has been more courageous than Bronte.”
