Pacing Event, Pick 4's in Thursday spotlight
At Cal Expo
Tuesday, June 7, 2011 - by Mark Ratzky, Publicity – Cal Expo
A $3,200 pacing contest headed by Myra’s Hi Ho and two Pick 4’s with
a reduced 15 percent takeout are among the main attractions on Thursday
evening (June 9) at Cal Expo.
Every Thursday through the end of the current meet, both Pick 4’s offer
a reduced 15 percent takeout rate, with the Late Pick 4 coming attached
with a $10,000-guaranteed gross pool.
To give an example of how much more this can mean in terms of return on
a winning ticket, last Thursday night’s (June 2) Late Pick 4 paid $2,717
for each correct $1 ticket. With the old takeout, it would have
returned $2,405, a difference of over $300.
On Saturday nights, the guaranteed gross pool for the Late Pick 4 has
been increased to $15,000. Both the Early and Late Pick 4's on Saturdays
have a reduced 15 percent takeout, with a bonus payout of 17.65 percent
for winning Late Pick 4 tickets played on track at Cal Expo or at
TwinSpires.com.
Getting back to the feature, Myra’s Hi Ho is coming off a runner-up
finish at this level behind the streaking Got The Giggles, who went
coast-to-coast in a facile victory that night. Myra’s Hi Ho was
first over in that mile and finished well for the place money, while no
threat to the winner.
A 5-year-old son of Hi Ho Silverheels, the dark-hued pacer races for the
partnership of Marty Garey, Hank Wieseneck and Bob Johnson, with Johnson
training and Lemoyne Svendsen in his usual spot in the sulky.
Myra’s Hi Ho is coming off two straight exacta completions and is eyeing
his fifth snapshot on the year from 22 trips to the post.
Completing the cast are Marlin Hanover, who has the one-hole with James
Kennedy guiding; She Is So Glad and Rich Wojcio; Scooter Babe for Steve
Wiseman; Yiannoulas Boy with Luke Plano; and Arch Nemeses, who does his
work from the outside with Scott Cisco handling the lines.
Live racing resumes at Cal Expo on Thursday (June 9) and continues
through Saturday (June 11). Post-time on Thursday is 5:30 p.m.
(PDT). Post-time on Friday (June 10) & Saturday is 6:00 p.m. On
Thursday and every live card, Cal Expo offers free admission, as well as
free preferred & general parking after 4:30 p.m. Also on Thursday
night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Cal Expo offers a complete Lasagna
dinner, which includes salad and bread, for just $3.00.
Additionally on Thursday, beer & wine can be purchased for $3.00 each as
well.
