Boyce Representing The Ladies In Series
Thursday, May 13, 2010 - by Mark Ratzky, Publicity -- Cal-Expo

Sue Boyce comes into Saturday night’s (May 15) second leg of the TVG Amateur series in smart style, winning one of last weekend’s divisions with Big Guy Two Win and checking in third with Wicked Tony in the other.

Big Guy Two Win, who hails from the Dario Solares barn, was winning for the third time in his last four starts while racing up close and personal, while the Matias Ruiz-trained Wicked Tony put in a solid late burst to just miss the place spot in his mile.

“Both of these horses raced extremely well, and Big Guy Two Win was in top form,” Boyce said.  “These are very competitive races.”

Sue is the only female pilot in the series and was asked about being a woman in harness racing.

“In the equestrian arena of sports, women are able to compete on a more equal level, and it seems there are even more women in harness racing than thoroughbreds.

“When you’re driving, it is about what horse is competitive.  I’m excited to be participating in the amateur series again, and we have a great group that puts on a very good program, plus the spectators really seem to enjoy seeing the different drivers.”

For the record, Sue has recorded 39 victories in her career, including a 4-for-21 mark this season.  She’ll be looking to add another couple of snapshots this weekend when she suits up behind Wicked Tony in the third race and Big Guy Two Win in the fifth on the evening.

Live racing resumes at Cal-Expo on Thursday (May 13) and continues through Saturday (May 15).  Post-time on Thursday is at 5:50 p.m. (PDT).  Post-time on Friday is at 6:20 p.m.  Post-time on Saturday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.  On Thursday night, Cal-Expo offers a complete Lasagna dinner, which includes salad and bread, for just $3.00.
