Gee Gee Cyril Lee, who has rattled off five wins in a row; and
Western Hurricane, who has accounted for two of his three
appearances at this meeting, have top billing in the $3,900 Cal-Expo
co-features on Thursday’s (September 2) program.
The races are designed for pacers carrying base claiming tags of
$10,000 down to $6,000. Gee Gee Cyril Lee should be a solid
favorite in the eighth on the card, while Western Hurricane attempts
an encore in the sixth race.
Gee Gee Cyril Lee is a 4-year-old son of Power Of Art and the
Dignatarian mare Gee Gee Girl who is owned and was bred by Lee and
Arlene Gellerman and Cyril and Lola Green, takes his lessons from
Rick Plano and will have Luke Plano in the sulky.
The streaking performer closed out the spring session with a pair of
victories and has continued the trend with three more at this stand.
The first two of those tallies came with $4,000 company, then he
successfully jumped up to this level for last weekend’s score.
Sent off the 4-5 choice while doing his work from the rail, Plano
put his charge right on the lead, withstood a strong challenge from
the pocket-sitting Grandpa Stevie in the stretch and came away again
at the end for the two and a half-length win.
Western Hurricane is a 6-year-old Western Hanover offspring who
carries the banner of Lili Tremblay, is conditioned by Nathalie
Tremblay and will once again be guided by James Kennedy. He
was an easy winner for a $4,000 tag on opening week, lost his chance
with interference in his next try, then returned to his winning ways
last week while doing the perfect track-and-attack for Kennedy.
