Santa Maria - 1943
February 3, 1943 - Harness Horse
A new half-mile track has been completed and has
been thrown open to trainers at Santa Maria, Cal. The track is admirably
located near three army camps, so when the Matinee season opens the
soldiers will be entertained with some good racing, and if there are any
of the eastern .horse boys now on the coast they will find a cordial
welcome, and we hope see some good races.
William Shank is located here at the track at the
present time and reports have it that the former well known Missouri
trainer, ''Billy" Taylor will pitch his training camp here at Santa
Maria.
Trainer Shank has Kinabbe p, 2:071/4 by Bert Abbe 1:591/4, King Sol P. 2:101/4 by Truabbe, Hanover Express 2:06 by Guy McKinney 1:583/4, Northern Bell, Marjorie Bell, True Express and Pegasus McElwyn.
The track has been well cared for during the winter and will be
a very fast piece of dirt when race time rolls around.
